Certification Course in Proficient Jawi Writing

Organised by IRDAK Singapore (Institute Ramlah Daing Abdul Kadir)
by Dr Hirman Khamis

WHY DO WE NEED TO BE PROFICIENT IN JAWI?
However, there is a greater purpose behind this: to establish a community of Jawi experts who can serve as dedicated Jawi teachers for children and teenagers, particularly those with special needs. This endeavour may present its fair share of challenges, but it is certainly attainable. Let us rise to the occasion and embrace this rewarding challenge.

It is the cultural heritage of the Malays, a precious treasure that has been passed down since the 13th century. Furthermore, it serves as a symbol of Malay arts and identity in this region. Its writing style is concise yet artistic, possessing a unique and classical charm. In essence, it is a beautiful script that lends itself well to calligraphy. The wisdom and knowledge of past societies are preserved within ancient documents. Proficiency in Jawi not only facilitates a deeper understanding of the Quran but also aids in writing sacred verses.

There is a growing concern that the mastery of Jawi is gradually diminishing over time. To address this issue, IRDAK, a local educational institution, has taken the initiative to organise a course aimed at enhancing proficiency in Jawi reading and writing.

However, there is a greater purpose behind this: to establish a community of Jawi experts who can serve as dedicated Jawi teachers for children and teenagers, particularly those with special needs.
